Paper Mountains

You'd be forgiven if you thought that these amazing photographs by Brendan Austin were rugged mountain landscapes. They are actually crumpled paper.

In his aptly titled photo series Paper Mountains, Austin wrote:

Inspired from the travels I took to the vastness of the United States west coast, the glaciers of Iceland and the mountains of New Zealand.

I constructed the images, building on existing photographs taken on these journeys, into a series of fabricated landscapes with the folds, shadows and texture of the paper building an alternate world.

Meticulously re-worked then re-photographed numerous times, the mountains slowly discard their original texture and surface.
