You'd be forgiven if you thought that these amazing photographs by Brendan Austin were rugged mountain landscapes. They are actually crumpled paper.
In his aptly titled photo series Paper Mountains, Austin wrote:
Inspired from the travels I took to the vastness of the United States west coast, the glaciers of Iceland and the mountains of New Zealand.
I constructed the images, building on existing photographs taken on these journeys, into a series of fabricated landscapes with the folds, shadows and texture of the paper building an alternate world.
Meticulously re-worked then re-photographed numerous times, the mountains slowly discard their original texture and surface.
