My old thermostat died when the furnace was on. I noticed when it got really hot in the house; good job I was at home. If I'm away, I use a home-brew temperature monitor (temps put on Dropbox), which works great. I assume the WiFi-controllable thermostats can tell you the temperature remotely.

Just attempting to point out "f-bomb" seems to be the modern equivalent of a kid in Catholic school saying "h-e-double-hockey-sticks". Seems juvenile.
