I think the whole current 'hack' rage is people just trying to sound like they're 'beating the system' by tying a knot in an extension cord so it won't unplug, or turning around the tab on their soda so the straw won't float up. These are not 'programming systems,' are they?

I am so sick of the term 'hack' being used for things which are re-purposed or creatively reused. A 'hack', as originally used, meant illegally or improperly using or accessing a computer or network system, not just tying a knot in a damn extension cord!

Had the sun been behind him, casting his shadow forward, and the people below positioned so their shadows were in full view; or he was far enough forward (without ruining the illusion) so his shadow was not cut off.... 10 times better!

So: He could hack the extension cord by tying a knot so it wouldn't unplug. I think it's a stretch, but maybe a sideways slang usage.
