The picture itself is misleading. However, if you watch the video you can CLEARLY see two sets of pinnae. This is a somewhat common mutation. This is NOT a mutilated animal. WATCH THE CNN VIDEO.
I submit that the bulk of any suffering this man has endured during his lifetime is due to the people like you, who prefer not to see him at all. The stigma this man faces everyday is the creation of close-minded and overtly sensitive people.
Most human oddities in recent years are Eastern in origin with Asia being the leader. This is due to a number of factors. Population and access to medical care - not quality, but usually geographical isolation from - being the main contributers.
As others have pointed out, the article is festered with urban legends. The Nova myth, the 'wax tadpole' but the most infamous is the Gerber label myth.
I used to love Japanese television. I lived in Asia for a time and the television there is by far the most entertaining programing anywhere. Even when you don't know the language, stupidity translates quite easily.
