The real way to test if someone is from the Seattle area is not to check the accent, but give them a list of local words to pronounce. (Along with my name, good ones are "Sequim", "Puyallup" and "Oregon".)

No idea if Shatner's being truthful, but it's my understanding a lot of actors don't particularly enjoy watching their finished work. (Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge: "I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific.")

And Shatner's wrong. He doesn't suck, he's just incredibly egotistical and lazy. They are not the same thing...
