MrPumpernickel: "I wouldn’t really call that ambidextrous drawing. Most of the time she’s either moving both pencils in ways which mirror each other or she’s moving one pencil while the other is essentially still."

That is exactly it. Majority of people cannot move/draw with each hand independently of the other, so most of the time it's a resting state for one of the two, or "mirrored" strokes. The movement doesn't have to be identical, but similar enough that when a big enough change in movement happens in one hand... what happens? The other hand stalls. Pretty much what is happening in the video.

Try it yourself on a sheet of paper.

If you're traveling, get a basic laptop. Buy an Eee for $200 if you can get away with it. If you take pictures, use a hotel or airport wifi connection and upload EVERYTHING you want off your laptop for when you get back home in case it gets confiscated.
The seizure of laptops across borders is absolutely pointless considering real criminals (their excuse for this kind of BS) would be keeping things online anyway.

@JC "WOW, the cell-phone video looks like a horror movie!"

It's actually a viral ad for a cell phone carrier. That's the "demon" in your previous carrier's cell phone that is being vanquished by the microwave. Note there is no screen in the glass.

I have yet to see a single argument against homosexuality that wasn't religiously based. Anyone who thinks this is 'wrong' should consider another aspect of something that is ultimately a birth issue. Should it be illegal for black people to get married? Why then can't gays get married?

Any justification against equal rights, religious or not, is discrimination.

And religious folks, I believe your very own Jesus said "Love one another, as I have loved you." Follow this advice more often, please.

"64 MB? A real mixtape was C-90, neither more nor less, so that stick is at least 30 or so Mb too small."

And $10 too expensive based on the $15.99 ThinkGeek price. 64MB for one hour is about right, if you're using 128k bitrate MP3s (yuck!)... 80 minutes at 160k is roughly 95MB. 128MB thumbdrives, minimum, if you're going to be selling it as a mix tape alternative.

Oh, and I don't want to give the impression of spamming, but I've got a page now which demonstrates how I've settled on a consistent format for my DJ mixes. http://ergh.org/ah/

I really like the template idea, so if I can make it work out, I may try it in the future for presentation and passing out promos of my work.

Cute idea, but really not practical due to the cost. You can easily get 2GB thumbdrives for about $15 now. Most of us have all had a stab at making a mixtape at one time or another, especially before CDRs became inexpensive and people were using that method. So yeah, I learned a few tricks myself to prevent clicks (as mentioned above) but also engaged in some crude overdubs to amusing (and often horrible) results. As technology moved along, my interest in Mixtapes in general didn't diminish, but turned into making DJ Mix albums instead. Whether as a hobby or as a serious technical (and maybe even professional) interest... the mixtape is alive and well, today. I've found quite a few websites popping up where people are putting up their own versions, albiet in flat-file MP3 format. It's a shame that today, even with something as popular as iPods, we still have MP3 players that cannot do gapless playback. I also have had to (to great, painful lengths) limit my mixes to 79:56 (80 minute CDs are effectively limited to 79:59, minus two seconds for the before-first-track pregap)... Just for people who may still have that CD player instead of an MP3 player. (And it's odd how often have CD burners but still haven't gotten an MP3 player yet.)

Technology's at a fun stage right now. So many inbetweens, but also so many different ways to do the same old idea of putting together our favourite tracks.

SamC has a great idea with the "template" idea and I think I'll give it a shot. I'll be sure to share it with Neatorama readers if it ends up looking nice. The trick is double sided printing. *groan*

I've taken many of the busses in Chinatown from Philly to NYC (and back)... and well, the ones I've taken seemed to be well maintained, the drivers weren't psychotic on the road and the company staff were nice and helpful. $20 both ways is hard to beat. IMHO, the best part is getting to Chinatown in both cities. Loads of activity and culture surrounding it. I always looked forward to taking the bus up to NYC and then walking through Chinatown to get to where I was going to in NYC.

>I heard that a gallon of milk is more expensive than a gallon of gas now…

It is in Chicago, but not by much. $4.29 a gallon for milk. $4.08 for a gallon of gas.

>Buy gold.

A foolish notion. If you adjust for dollar values and inflation, gold values have remained relatively static. Only reason gold seems to valuable now is because the Dollar is so weak.

>Hmm… oh great, so they’re saying “it’s good to spend money” - even when you don’t have it.

and within that, what they're probably really saying is "Spend it all now before the dollar is worth less than toilet paper!"
