Cross country trains will never come back: we are too big. The difference between Europeans and Americans is that American think 200 years is a long time while Europeans think 200 miles is a long distance.

Commuter trains, on the other hand can be wonderful. Unfortunately, unless you are going to/from a city center, they do little good.

Not sure if this is available everywhere, but the best option for new vehicles is to find an automobile broker. The one I use get better deals than a dealership on both the price and the financing. As well, there is no pressure. When you know the car you want, make a phone call and pick it up in a couple of days.
