I seem to recall Billy Wilder was said to be very proficient in shorthand. I was "in business" in the 80's, and remember the above rational for the reluctance of many to accept computers into their offices at the time. I didn't buy it as the same objection would have applied to cell phones, but didn't. I had a manager at the time who would get his secretary to print out his E-mail (dialcom, then) and dictate responses... he had decorative PC and 3270 terminal in his office.

my dad where that name came from; his father had been a saloon keeper
and his establishments usually had a room where patrons face the DT's.
So, essentially, a room to panic in.
