While I have some sympathy to the complaints, as a tourist to more than twenty countries, I must point out that tourists go to tourist traps and pump a lot of cash into the local economy. The locals are just being obnoxious or worse xenophobic and racist. I've seen how some locals treat Japanese tourists in Europe. Japanese tourists are very polite if a bit eccentric. They don't deserve the racist treatment that they've been subjected to.
I myself have been treated badly by locals in Paris, London, and Hong Kong. The mere fact that being a tourist is enough to elicit bad behavior from bad people. The best locals are from Japan and Korea. Very accommodating and warm to visitors. Too bad they can barely speak English or I would go back there more often.
BTW, Chicken and Rice is rather common here in Asia. When I first ate KFC in SanFran, I was shocked (!) to find out that they didn't have it with rice.
I remember the last time I rode a plane with smoking. It was a flight to Japan in 1999. The smoking section was at the last part of the plane, by the tail.
Totally unfair. What next? Regular people play pick-up basketball vs. LeBron James? Regular people try to submit BJJ blackbelt Xande Ribiero? Regular people vs. a Siberian tiger? I just don't find fascination with regular folks being pitted against overwhelming adversity.
I bought a dashcam after we all saw the various dashcam videos of a meteorite that exploded over Russia. I have yet to record anything remotely interesting. Not even a fender bender, just your occasional traffic violation like running a red light.
I am very skeptical of this research. This does not explain, for instance, Filipinos. Sure we have influences from Chinese, American, and Malay cultures; but on the whole we're not that varied. As an island nation, we are like Japan in that we're isolated from the mainland.
Yet we are irrationally happy. We sing a lot because we are happy or try drive away our sadness. And we smile a lot. I can't understand it.

And the old lady doesn't seem to know how to use a single action 1911 (rack the slide to chamber a round before firing).
