I wasn't much older than 10 when I first saw it at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, and it was the most astonishing thing I'd ever seen. Never bored, my jaw was hanging open most of the time and I only blinked about once a minute.
To those who "weren't impressed": For the sake of comparison, go watch the movie "Marooned", with Gregory Peck & Gene Hackman, which won the Visual Effects Oscar™ the year after "2001". Great story and acting (think "Apollo 13"), but the cinematography and special effects were just awful. Then rewatch "2001", and see if you appreciate it any better. You're welcome.
Always loved this thing! Odd that it's the only one ever built. One would expect that megalomaniacs the world over would want a transportable yet stable platform to hide out on.
While I really love the whole concept of the various 826 National stores, my only question is: Why put a "Bigfoot Research Institute" in Greater Boston, when most of the alleged sightings are in the Pacific Northwest? Seattle or Portland would've been the perfect locale.
Brooklyn was a perfect spot for the Superhero Supply Co, since most of 'em are in the Big Apple (in the comics, anyway).
I guess they put the Space Travel Supply Co. in Seattle because of the Space Needle, but I'd have gone with Orlando, since that's the major city closest to Kennedy Space Center. Although, without a real Space Program anymore...
Before I watch the video, with the inevitable torrent of tears, let me just ask: Why keep it a secret from the father? This news surely would've boosted his morale while he was deployed.
Of all the underwater movies that came out in 1989, they had to name it after "Deepstar Six"? Awwww, c'mon! "The Abyss" was waaay better. Even "Leviathan" was more watchable!
Hehe, just kidding... It was named after the research submersible Deepstar 400, which discovered it in 1966.

Oh, great! Out of all the blood types, they had to single out MINE!
I'm very frightened right now.

Ummm, shouldn't that be: "Are you tired of your neighbors stealing your unsecured wi-fi?"
Less accusatory that way.
All his drawings are pencil & paper versions of the string art we all learn in elementary school Art class: Mark off equidistant points on a line, and interconnect the dots.
