Here's the mess of a "home office" an ex-roommate of mine used to habituate in one corner of my apartment: http://www.dazeofourlives.com/carlospigsty.jpg It's only funny when you don't have to live with it.
By knee-jerk anti-libertarian I mean the sort of guy I unfortunately ran into one time. This guy reads the LA Times and swallows it whole - hook line and sinker. Describing myself as - if anything - libertarian - if pressed to put a name to it - he knee-jerked back something along the lines of "libertarian is just another name for fascist republiscum". And this was a guy I was out enjoying a hike with amongst a group of friends. I think this is not an atypical reaction from anyone left of center who thinks he's a thinker.
I said nothing about Rand. I agree with the sentiment above criticizing the quote. I think she was a terrible writer with brilliant ideas. The fact that there are no quotable Ayn Rand quotes in common usage only goes to show that. There's a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Atlas Shrugged currently being shown on CSPAN2 - BookTV. I tuned in for a while but couldn't listen to it for very long as everyone talks in that hideous philosophy-speak - even the audience members asking questions of the panelists.
Yet another example of so-called "artists" giving art a bad name. When I see an "art" piece that the artist says is a political statement of some sort OR the art is just a pile of no-talent crap I feel like smacking them round the side of the head. This is only "neat" because it's an example of the boundaries of moronic human behavior that we should all agree are laughable.
With the selection of the International Committee on Climate Change and Al Gore, Jr., for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, President Bush has moved into the record book for most Peace Prizes awarded to Americans during their presidency.
His Presidency is tied with three others for most Americans winning the Award!
Previous American Presidents to share multiple peace prizes during their Presidency were Ronald Reagan, Richard M. Nixon and…Herbert Hoover. http://boifromtroy.com/?p=6869
Great find Alex! Blanc is on tip-top form here, although Letterman seems to be reading from a script and doesn't respond to Mel's improvised/rehearsed anecdotes with anything more than his prepared schpiel
I can only imagine Carson might have done a better job of responding to Blanc's amazing vocal demonstrations by engaging him more and getting something more spontaneous out of him. Did Carson have Blanc on his show?
To the appeasocrat Stanhope: you're the sort of person who, had you been a Frenchman in WW2 would have willingly been a pawn in the Vichy government rather than a member of the resistance. Of course there are "just" wars. Or would you rather we lived here in the States as part of the British Commonwealth? Or perhaps Lincoln should have appeased the South in order to avoid war.
Yes Alison! If people bother to click on and look at the rest of the work they'll be amazed. Her work sells for 6 figures now, due to this brilliant pool series. I was disappointed that no-one had commented. Thanks for chiming in. As I said to Alex as I joined Neatorama - my posts will tend to be about art. By all means suggest any other artist who warrants a look at.
What's wrong with war when it's just and noble? Winning WW2 was the best thing that democracies ever did - and proved that free, democratic, pluralistic sovereign nations can actually achieve something when united together against tyranny.
