Josh - almost all of Alberta's "oil" is tar sands. Based on today's technology, it's not terribly feasible to extract and is not considered "proven reserves".

My guess is that it was caused by latex. Many people have latex allergies, and latex is sometimes used in cheap shoes.

And people actually pay money for this?

Sid - From an environmental standpoint, we'd all be much better if we just let most of our trash lay outside and biodegrade.
