My understanding is that the caloric limit is 850 calories at lunch. That seems exceptionally high. I rarely eat more than about 400 calories for lunch. Even when I was a teen, I rarely ate more than about 500 calories for lunch. Usually just a sandwich and an apple.
Of course, that's just me. I suppose some kids might need 850 for lunch, but that has to be the exception, not the rule.
What I don't understand is why these kids, who are surely complaining about an overreach by "big government", seem to want government to give them more. Surely they want to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and bring their own food in, right?
So, does "eat them or go hungry" no longer work? That was the policy when I was little. I did go to bed without my dinner once because I didn't want brussel sprouts. I never did it again.
We live in a country with amazing abundance, where children are lucky enough to have plenty of vegetables to eat. Maybe they need to be grateful and eat their darn food.
The Oracle at Delphi, known as the Pythia, was always a woman.

I realize I sound cranky. No need to tell me.
