I can honestly say that I do not recall watching one minute of any of those shows. One show that really disappointed me was Bob Newhart's follow up to the hilarious "Newhart" innkeeper show. It was Bob as a cartoonist or something like that. Put it into the "what were they thinking" category.
Last year we had a box of frozen salmon I had purchased at our local grocery store the week before. MrsO cooked it up and served it. I took a bite and it was like cardboard. YUCK. Not edible. Checked the package and the due/use by date was 2009 ! Complaints at the store got me a $25 gift card, to the frozen fish company a coupon for two new meals. I check things like milk and juice, but who would have thought I needed to check frozen food? I do now. I would hope the folks that stock the frozen food section rotate the products carefully.
I have a lot of useless information crammed into my brain. There are times when I know a lot of the answers. I feel especially good when I know the final one and all 3 contestants do not. The reality is that if I was keeping count, I probably know less than 50% of the answers. If I ever tried and got on the show it would be my luck that categories like 13th Century Bulgarian Poetry would be on the board. I still watch a lot, especially when someone is on with 5 or more wins.
At a former home back in CNY, we had to clear out an overgrown area along side the house. I went through 2 lawnmowers until I finally went manual with a scythe. Worked for me.
I have a brother in law in Canada that runs a large turkey farm. Most of his operation is automated and also keeping the mortality rate low. He does raise some free range birds for those willing to pay for them. Of course free range will mean higher cost as it involves lower production. It's agribusiness, folks, and we (the free world) feed the world.
