So you would have public libraries "vigorously enforce" the anti-porn rule without using any kind of filtering software. Interesting. Would each computer user get issued their own personal prudish librarian to keep watch over them?

Related: did you know you you can flag *any* website as porn?

Fun!

Also from the article, the filters blocked a gun magazine.

Keeping adults from reading about guns in a public library -- censorship or just common sense?

From the article: "But the policy also means the library has to block some popular sites, like Google Images "

Ah. So their filters block anything that *might* be porn, including all images searches. Well that's a different story, isn't it?

Here, let me fix your misleading post title for you:

Also, William Vogel is a bit of a <a href="http://www.claremont.org/publications/crb/id.1594/article_detail.aspright-wing freak.

Any "member of government" can nominate someone for the Peace Prize -- all US Presidents have been nominated.

And the stated reason for this award is not Obama's accomplishments to date, but an acknowledgment of a sweeping and radical change in policy for the worlds most powerfully armed nation.

The poll is misleading. This isn't a reward for Obama -- it's a hue responsibility for him to live up to. Does he "deserve" to be saddled with the burden of making his time in office worthy of being compared to Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King? No, I don't think anyone deserves that. But at this point in our history, it's what he must take on. Sucks for him. But I hope he makes it.

Before you all go off on your ridiculous solipsistic brand jihads, did anyone actually READ the article that was linked here? Charlie Brooker doesn't defend Windows against Mac zealots. He says he uses Windows out of pure self-loathing and ignorance:

"It's grim, it's slow, everything's badly designed and nothing really works properly: using Windows is like living in a communist bloc nation circa 1981. And I wouldn't change it for the world, because I'm an abject bloody idiot and I hate myself, and this is what I deserve: to be sentenced to Windows for life."

See? We can all join hands and agree! Windows is hellish and broken, but for most of the world, that's just fine!

There's always been malware designed for Apples - this is far from the first. The difference is that OS X is genuinely more secure than Windows+IE, which is why there still aren't any self-spreading Mac viruses or worms. For example this trojan requires the user to download and install a corrupted copy of Photoshop or iLife, entering admin passwords along the way. Which is probably why McAfee dismissed this trojan - identified back in January by the way - as minor and largely irrelevant.

It's not a matter of being smug. It just a matter of one system allowing infection if you click on the wrong link, and one system not. But of course I may be wrong, Windows is just as securely designed as OS X. and that Mac malware apocalypse really is coming. Any minute now...
