Genetic males who have androgen insensitivity syndrome are sometimes described as "stunning" by endocrinologists who treat them. Evidently androgen makes us ugly.
I think this has a lot to do with the fact that most high functioning students are generally the big fish in a small pond in high school. This phenomenon generally fades as they ascend to the university level. Rather than confront the fact that being "great" in high school means they are now "average" at a top university, they opt to get degrees in less competitive fields where they think they again can be the big fish.
They have a "cocktail party" personality and often a love of and talent for music. It has been suggested that Mick Jagger has Williams disease and that Dopey from Snow White was modeled on someone with the syndrome.
Not sure how this works since the whole point of a Captcha is to determine if what you type is correct or not and allow or deny access to a site based on that determination. If it doesn't know what the correct answer is then how can it decide to let you enter?
Pica is seen with iron deficiency anemia. It is plausible that if an entire village had little iron (poor red meat intake) then this could well become a popular snack. Many hematologists include pica (ice chip eating) on their intake survey as it can be sensitive for picking up iron deficiency.
Why would an endocrinologist run an allergy panel? Generally, Internal Medicine and Allergy/Immunologists run these tests. In addition there are false positives and the clinical picture should fit the test results. Also, there are several test panels including skin puncture, skin patch, RAST, food challenge, etc and they all have different sensitivities, specificities and clinical value. Some tests can also prove to be fatal if an anaphylactoid reaction is unmasked during skin prick testing or food challenge. No doctor in their right mind will test everybody who has some GI upset with certain foods for allergy testing, it's too expensive. Most MD's will suggest eliminating the most likely offending agent and if the symptoms improve then an intolerance will be noted to that agent.
It's the same substance used to find hidden blood on shows like CSI. It's called Luminol and you can use a variety of agents to activate it, not just blood.
Supercavitation is water vapor created in a low pressure environment (boiling point is directly proportional to pressure). Cavitation can cause major damage to propellers and is used by trigger shrimp to damage the outer shell of crabs. In these instances, cavitation is damaging because the instant the cavity collapses, water slams against the surface near the object creating the cavitation. Propellors can cavitate when they spin too fast. A ship that can cavitate must be capable of creating an area of low pressure on the nose, such as a wing. I assume supercavitation means that the vapor cavity is sustained for a long period of time.
Yeah, don't know about that prescription one. I'm a doctor and am pretty sure that we're the ones doling out the OCP's (with the exception of Plan B, but even then you must be >18yo). Maybe NP's, but they still work under the license of an MD.
It's that or kids are just lazier these days...
