I did find the "blind as a bat" reference interesting, being as how a few stories preceeding this one points out that bats, in fact, are not blind. Hopefully I won't also be called a pompous jerk.

I completely agree with both of you.
She makes pop music, she dresses
garrishly. That does not constitute being
mentioned alongside Jimi Hendrix and Miles
Davis. She's a flash in the pan, not a legend.

Boom bap, you said it well. It's nice to see someone champion truly poetic, intelligent hip-hop. Brother Ali is another act that excels at this, as well as Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, and countless others.
Of course, they're not mainstream, but most of us can attest to the fact that tons of amazing music is not being played on the radio. That's another subject entirely...

We, as people, tend to generalize all too often, and by doing so, we miss out on wonderful things that fall outside the norm. It would be like saying, "Rock and roll sucks!" because of Nickelback. Yes, Nickelback sucks, but not all rock & roll does.

I appreciate creativity greatly, as well as humor. I see creativity here, yet cannot comprehend how this can be considered funny. "Wouldn't it be funny if people wore shredded clothing to work?!? What a hoot!!!" No, not really...

It depresses me even further that as we are "cowering in fear in our cubicles", someone is spending such an obviously substantial amount of time coming up with such utter nonsense. I believe in being casual and comfortable at work, but come on...

Generalizations can hamper future growth of the mind.
I can say modern rock sucks because of what I hear on the radio. That's an unfair generalization. Sure, I think Nickelback blows and tend to sound like about 10 other bands out there right now, but it's just my opinion. There is other good stuff out there.
Same goes for hip-hop. I'm not impressed with bling-bling and whatnot, but there are MYRIADS of fantastic hip-hop artists out there. Check out Brother Ali, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, El-P, the list goes on and on. I majored in English in college and I have a great appreciation of our language and it being used creatively. That said, I'm a huge fan of the aforementioned artists. Check out anything on the two "underground" hip-hop labels: Rhymesayers, and Definitive Juxtaposition (Def Jux). LISTEN and enjoy!
