Now wait, I think we all remember that there were a bunch of wild-eyed freaks suggesting the Global Ice Age like Alvin Toffler-esque people suggesting that we'd have to contact UFOs or use pyramid power to keep warm. I remember a local news report on this where it was a pyramid power weirdo facing off a square scientist who talked about global warming. I'm 40, I remember 1975, not well, but well enough to call bull on this one- people didn't take the ice age seriously- they thought it was bogus. Compare this to Global Warming and you end up looking really foolish.

I'm not at all happy about this. I made many edits to wikipedia from my old company about 3 years ago. The idea that my company should be smeared by my actions or my interests and corrections automatically mean that my old company believed in that is not just preposterous, it's exactly the kind of anti-communist work that Joe McCarthy did- guilt by association. My free speech has been hurt by this software.

All those rap names are awful and anyone defending them- you have no taste man. The worst rap name to go to a good rapper could well be Eminem, but if not him, then definitely Snoop Dogg. That name is just lame and dumb and there's no defense for it. "Snoop Dogg?" Well... and an extra g at the end, ok? It's just silly, a child could have come up with a better name. Dr. Dre is pretty stupid too, because it's so painfully obvious. My name is Dre.... hmmm... Dr. Dre.

The sad truth is that the people I know who got into rap universally had pretty bad taste in everything, so they always looked ridiculous and we made fun of them. That's why if you look at rap circa 1988 the untied sneakers and furry hats look idiotic. Then the medals and track suits of 1990 look idiotic. Then people make fun of the Wu Tang Clan and their silliness in the 1990s. None of it lasts beyond Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Afrika Bambata (sp) and a few people who created something true and lasting. The rest really didn't put any thought into what they were doing and lived to regret the day they got a Jherri Curl (like NWA).

I am in the US and we use metric "often." It is displayed on almost all our food packaging, for instance, and is displayed on almost all scales and other info. You rarely see signs in metric, but you ALWAYS see wrench sizes and hardware lengths in metric. Almost all rulers and measuring tapes are in both. I think the issue is that if it's not on the highway signs or on gas station signs people think it's not used.

Yeah, those people are pure evil. Civilized cultures give up uncivilized behavior like slavery, hunting whales, funeral pyre suicides, footbinding, burning witches, etc. I know one southwestern Native American who told me he thought ceremonial Inuit hunts were awful ideas that gave people the impression that aboriginals could never exist in a modern society- he was an entrepreneur, so hardly someone who needed to resort to killing whales any more than I would eat a pet dog or blame the gypsies for my lost car keys.
