about 20 years ago my family visited Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia and were subjected to many anti-gay taunts and even shoving. Why? Because I wore Ocean Pacific surf shirts and my father wore short-sleeved button down office shirts. The Canadians literally said that if we weren't wearing plaid shirts we were [gay slur] and this was in a restaurant!

I never spent one single penny in Canada again and I would recommend that no American ever spend any money with those homophobic, racist people. They had horrible manners, were extremely aggressive to tourists and the absolute most ill-mannered people I've ever met on this planet, far ruder than New Yorkers or Parisians.

Apparently Western Canada is not as scummy. The Maritimes however are an embarassment to North America.

What a bass-akwards view. Children are producers, not consumers. Children today will popularize non-fossil fuel vehicles 40 years from now. They will develop ways to clean up plastics and the pollution we created. By not raising a child to do that YOU'RE the one creating more garbage.

People buy the fashion magazines for the advertisements because the ads are the ways these companies communicate to other people in their field.

Working in retail, you read the fashion ads like programmers read Slashdot.

More ads equal more content. That's what vogue essentially markets, the ads.

I've told this story many times. A Randroid was hired as my wife's assistant, after about 6 weeks at the company she gives a speech to the team about how she is "the architect," Howard Roark, beset by petty minds just like the Fountainhead and how negotiation of her ideals will kill her soul, etc. They fired her immediately for insubordination and she got a job, not a joke, at the Home Depot because Randians HAVE no ideas and can't actually LEAD anyone. They turn to a philosophy that espouses the individual because they are incapable of success in normal society that requires ideas that inspire.

Anyone who says that "all" movements use radical language to shock or offend is a fool, most movements absolutely do not do this as we all know- outside of high school anyway. And the objectivists just never got over their mommies saying they were special on the way to the bus stop.

I have only been able to complete one book for fun in the last year. Everything else I read for work, was nonfiction, or related.

However I read one "book" to my kids every night if not more. I would never count reading to someone else as reading, so I'm not sure how this should work.

Uhhh... do you really think that acid rain went away just because you don't here about it on the news? Do you understand the definition of the phrase "head in the sand?" I have a friend who is fighting this issue in China, where the pH of rain has dropped steadily. That post about acid rain really sums up science education in the US, doesn't it... it's not on the news, so it MUST not be a problem anymore.
