As someone who is lactose intolerant, I am well aware that popping a Lactaid pill when I eat something that may have milk or whey is important to minimize the unpleasant effects. The advice is, if you are not familiar with what you are eating assume it may have some trace amount of dairy and take a Lactaid pill. But the best solution is to not eat anything that may have milk or whey in it! The worker in this article must know that he is regularly eating something that contains dairy (at both breakfast and at lunch, apparently!) and he simply doesn't care.
