Karloff in makeup department
Vintage Everyday has published these wonderful photographs of English actor Boris Karloff on the set of James Whale's classic film Frankenstein, which premiered in 1931, as well as on the sets of the sequels. Frankenstein's monster became the character that Karloff was best known for during his career as an actor; Karloff went on to play the monster in Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein. After those films, his popularity surged.
For Frankenstein, the 5'11" Karloff had to drag around more than his large frame. His costume included four-inch platform boots that weighed 11 pounds each. The facial makeup was burdensome as well, but Karloff handled it professionally and with good humor. Karloff also was beloved for his later voice work as the Grinch in Dr. Seuss' 1966 animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

The goblin shark in the YouTube still shot above was found in Australia in January and was donated to the Australian Museum of Sydney. In the video (which can be accessed by clicking on the YouTube link above) Mark McGrouther, the Collection Manager at the museum, shows off the dead specimen, allowing for a close-up view and explanation of its unusual jaw structure, nose and teeth.

This is Hulk, a 173-pound pitbull. His owner Marlon Grannon breeds and trains protection and police dogs at Dark Dynasty K9 in New Hampshire, but he has made Hulk his family pet. While he's not an official record holder, Hulk may be the largest of his kind — he's certainly a massive example of the breed.
In spite of his formidable appearance, Grannon says Hulk is a cuddly sweetheart with all of his family members. He also likes to sing! To promote his new movie Unfinished Business, Vince Vaughn and other members of the cast including Dave Franco and Tom Wilkinson are lending their likenesses to a set of typically goofy stock photos. The images, which will be available for free download, were created in a joint effort by Twentieth Century Fox and iStock by Getty Images. While we've seen the Stock Photobomber innovate his way into the camp of stock photography, this is the first time it's been done in this manner and with recognizable faces.

YouTube user Joshua Sutherland said his sisters Kaylene and Cindy were visiting their parents who are missionaries in South Africa when a lioness at a drive-through safari park opened the family's car door with her teeth. Hopefully that will teach them to keep the doors locked!

Kubrick's once controversial 1972 film A Clockwork Orange is filled with more than a bit of the old ultraviolence. Some love the colorful film adaptation of Anthony Burgess' 1962 dystopian novel, some don't, to put it mildly. Malcolm McDowell, who played protagonist Alex DeLarge, did an excellent job with the role, and many scenes are unforgettable.
Any fan of Kubrick knows that on his film sets, there was a ton of discussion and downtime for many of the actors as he obsessed over one detail or another in between hundreds of takes. This photo collection at Dangerous Minds features some great behind-the-scenes captures from the film shoot. Put on some Ludwig Van and come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles. Time magazine curated a list of the 50 healthiest foods known to nutrition science and asked registered dietician, nutritionist and cookbook author Tina Ruggiero to give facts about the nutritional value of each item. Recipes for each food are supplied as well.
One food on the list is the avocado, which contains 20 easily absorbed vitamins and minerals. Substituting an avocado for a saturated fat (such as butter or cheese) is thought to reduce risk of heart disease, even without weight loss.

Recipe from Cooking Light: Chipotle Pork and Avocado Wrap
Ingredients
1/2 cup mashed peeled avocado
1 1/2 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons chopped canned chipotle chiles in adobo sauce
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
4 (8-inch) fat-free flour tortillas
1 1/2 cups (1/4-inch-thick) slices cut Simply Roasted Pork (about 8 ounces)
1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
1/4 cup bottled salsa
Preparation
Combine the first 7 ingredients, stirring well.
Warm tortillas according to package directions. Spread about 2 tablespoons avocado mixture over each tortilla, leaving a 1-inch border. Arrange Simply Roasted Pork slices down center of tortillas. Top each tortilla with 1/4 cup shredded lettuce and 1 tablespoon salsa, and roll up.
The workforce in Japan is known for dealing with long and brutal hours. Salaried employees have little time for a life outside of work. In this footage, a man who calls himself "Stu in Tokyo" visits the city and arranges to experience being a salaried worker there. I am exhausted just watching him. — Jason Ward (@Jayward7) March 2, 2015Photographer Martin Le-May says he captured this amazing snap of a weasel on the back of a flying woodpecker, the weasel in mid-attack. Le-May said he took the photo while on a walk with his wife. They heard a "distressed squawking," which alerted them to the bird's presence. The photographer said in an interview with ITV News,
"I saw that flash of green. So hurriedly I pointed out to Ann the bird and it settled into the grass behind a couple of small silver birch trees. Both of us trained our binoculars and it occurred that the woodpecker was unnaturally hopping about like it was treading on a hot surface. Lots of wing flapping showing that gloriously yellow/white colour interspersed with the flash of red head feathers. Just after I switched from my binoculars to my camera the bird flew across us and slightly in our direction; suddenly it was obvious it had a small mammal on its back and this was a struggle for life.
The woodpecker landed in front of us and I feared the worst. I guess though our presence, maybe 25 metres away, momentarily distracted the weasel. The woodpecker seized the opportunity and flew up and away into some bushes away to our left. Quickly the bird gathered its self respect and flew up into the trees and away from our sight."

This will no doubt shock anyone reading this, but there's a new and goofy trend that's cropped up on the internet. More surprisingly, said trend involves selfies. But the other factor thrown into the equation is a marsupial native to Australia called the quokka. These little guys have enough expression, personality and chub to win over even the coldest of hearts.
The quokka is a social animal and isn't afraid to be in close proximity with humans. On the contrary, judging from these shots, quokkas appear to like the company. Unfortunately, quokkas are listed as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List, and it is against the law to touch them. But it's legally on the level to make them smile by posing with them for glamour shots. Perhaps some good will come out of the quokka selfie, in that awareness is raised with respect to their status as an endangered species.

Yogyakarta, Indonesia-based photographer Aditya Permana happened to click his shutter on this forest dragon lizard just in time to catch him deep in a musical trance while performing a leaf guitar solo. Permana told the Dailymail that he
"did not directly photograph the lizard at first, until the lizards feel calm and comfortable around me. I noticed it looked like it was playing a guitar – and it didn’t move at all.“
