Christmas Card Marriage Proposal

When Jamie's boyfriend Tyne arranged a photo shoot for a family Christmas card, like a loyal girlfriend, she went along with the plan. But as it turned out, getting a Christmas card out of the deal was the least of Tyne's worries. He and Jamie (in the red sweaters, front row) were initially sitting in front of family members with t-shirts spelling "Merry Xmas." The family soon did a quick and quiet change-up to shirts that read "Marry Me?" When the photographer asked Jamie to look at the photo, she thought it was due to a problem with the pose. Once she saw the camera screen, she had a big reaction that let Tyne know his answer was "yes."

Kangaroo Takes a Dip

This kangaroo ended up in the swimming pool at the home of the Hughes family, who live in suburban Adelaide, South Australia. As the animal can be dangerous, the family was fearful for themselves and their two dogs. They managed to get it out of the pool with a broom, but were unable to shoo it off. Eventually, after being given the advice to stay inside and leave the kangaroo alone, it left on its own, skipping off down the street.  -Via Laughing Squid

Today's Problems, Illustrated in Fifties Style

Acclaimed British illustrator John Holcroft illustrates present day problems with biting satire. These illustrations borrow style from advertisements from the 1950s. For This Tortoise's Leg Problem, LEGO was the Answer

A veterinarian from Enger, Germany took parts from his son's LEGO set to give this tortoise by the name of Blade his mobility back. Dr. Carsten Plischke pieced together a temporary “wheelchair” for Blade, who lost strength in his legs from a growth disorder. With his new wheels, Blade is able to maneuver while his legs are able to heal. Eventually Blade will be able to walk again.

Dr. Plischke said in an interview with the Daily Mail that options for animals with mobility issues are, sadly, limited.

"For people there are walkers, rollators or prostheses but for animals there are no companies that produce something like that," Plischke said.

LEGO to the rescue! Read more on this story and see additional pictures at the Daily Mail.

Yes, it's essentially a commercial, but it's also the documentation of a sweet little boy's wish come true. -Via Tastefully Offensive

Stephen King's It to be Adapted for the Big Screen

After years in development, a big-screen version of Stephen King’s It is set to start production in the spring. Producer Dan Lin said in an interview that It will be his next project. True Detective director Cary Fukunaga will direct the film. Lin told Vulture,

“The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot. Cary likes to develop things for a while, and we’ve been with this for about three or four years, so we’re super excited that he stayed with it. You guys are gonna be really excited.”

Lin plans to make two movies; one detailing the children's lives and how they came to know Pennywise, and the other following the adults who still battle him. As of now, Fukunaga is only signed to direct the first film, Lin says they expect to close the deal soon to sign him to the second.

According to Lin, even Stephen King is happy about the plan. He said,

"The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing, We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.’ So that was really gratifying.”

Any familiar face is a possibility, including celebrities, historical figures and characters from movies, television series and cartoons. Each mix is given a new moniker that cleverly blends the names of the visages used to create it. No face is too obscure, from Vanilla Ice to South Park's Cartman.

Beautiful Photo: Fossilized Snail Turned to Opal

Redditor Proteon posted this image of a fossilized snail turned to opal recently. Opal forms in cavities inside rocks. If a cavity is created due to a bone, shell or pine cone being buried in the sand or clay that later became the rock, and conditions are right for opal formation, then opal forms a fossilized likeness of the object. A silica-rich environment is required for opal formation. -Via Science Dump
