The Lincoln Park Zoo welcomed their first-ever birth of red panda cubs, a litter of a boy and a girl named Clark and Addison, respectively. The cubs were born to mama Leafa and papa Phoenix on June 26, and are every bit as typically adorable as all cubs of the species.
The video footage below shows Addison and Clark as they received their second medical exam. The two are thriving; Addison's weight has nearly tripled since last weigh-in and Clark's has doubled. See additional pictures and read more about Lincoln Park Zoo's growing red panda family at Zooborns.
Nothing like a down and dirty Singapore street fight in which two formidable snake species, a python and a cobra, go at it in a showdown for supremacy. One of them wins, but I won't spoil it for you by saying which, just in case you haven't yet watched this standoff. The winning snake sticks around, possibly to check for admirers and/or groupies, but his only hookup is what appears to be several gentlemen from animal control. Via Uproxx
Pacific Coast League minor team the El Paso Chihuahuas got more race than they bargained for when they hosted the Wiener Schnitzel weenie dog race on the field before their game last Saturday. Apparently no one at the park anticipated the soaring spirit of a dachshund running on his own personal Field of Dreams. The desire to break free of all constraint was just too strong to keep in check. As is evident from the video, the joyfully naughty canine was eventually apprehended after a chase. The kitsch and camp of the old science fiction pictures continue to entertain in ways some of which may not have been initially intended. Hapless and helpless, cartoon curvy and colorful damsels droop in the arms of danger. How can one not be curiously charmed? See for yourself and take a look at this collection of vintage sci-fi movie posters from the 1950s and 1960s. Days-of-old-inspired smiles abound. While some now decry them as politically incorrect, they are simply a sign of the times in which they were created.

BuzzFeed Australia enlisted the services of Sherbet Birdie Vintage & Pin-up Photography in order to give several average Australian women traditional pin-up model looks. While each woman stated a reason in which they felt they were not pin-up material, they were pleasantly surprised with their transformations from modern casual to old-world glamour.

The Twilight Zone broke ground in multiple fashions. One way in which the series pioneered is by launching the careers of numerous actors who are beloved household names today. The original series ran from 1959-1964, and part of this "wondrous land of imagination" was the ability of their casting powers-that-be to discover some amazing talents while they were relative unknowns.

Brazilian art director Bruno Leo Ribeiro created a series of emojis in the form of beloved musicians and bands. Why not, right? There seems to be emoji representations of everything else out there — musical acts are arguably more worthy than many others that exist.
Included in Ribeiro's series are Rage Against the Machine, U2, The Beatles, David Bowie, Kiss, Michael Jackson and even the Village People (which makes for quite the entertaining emoji)! From metal to alternative to pop to punk, Ribeiro leaves out few genres.

Artist Jon Burgerman has been featured at Neatorama multiple times over the years for his witty work that often explores how art can be designed to interact with life in amusing and interesting ways. Such techniques can be found in a grouping of Burgerman's recent work that he calls "Jon's Famous Friends."
The series, some of which is shown here, features his form interacting with those of celebrities. The artist said in an interview that the pieces not only are a lighthearted way to reflect upon society's obsession with celebrities, but it's also a commentary on the public's desire to present themselves in the best possible light. He says,
“I want to explore how we create public narratives for ourselves, and taking it to an extreme, absurdist level. I’m cranking up the FOMO, envy and anxiety.
I’m also trying to show that in most cases these things are actually pretty mundane. So I’m ‘hanging out’ with celebrities, but we’re not doing anything that fascinating (apart from shooting up with Obama of course). Celebrities’ Instagram feeds are often littered with multiple selfies and photos of their cats. They’re just as dull as us normal people!”

Gemma Correll zeroes in on some of the less come-hither glows of summer with her latest comic. Not every tan is a good tan, nor is it necessarily a natural happenstance. While out people watching during summer, one is often prompted to wonder about certain confusing complexions: were they caused by a sun kiss or kick? Is that real or faux/foe color? A recent National Geographic article based on data from a study called "Arachnid aloft: directed aerial descent in neotropical canopy spiders" published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface details what's likely a horrible concept to arachnophobes: a flying spider.
"Flying spider" is a bit of a misnomer, however. Selenops spiders, sometimes referred to as “flatties,” essentially coast on air, steering themselves using their flat bodies, gliding so gracefully as to appear in flight. The spider can also maneuver its body in many ways mid-glide, even turning itself right-side up or vice versa. As if that information isn't alarming enough for people firmly rooted in the anti-spider camp, Selenops is one of the fastest-moving creatures on Earth.

This Associated Press video footage from August 27th, 2015 shows a sinkhole in the northeastern city of Harbin, China opening up as pedestrians walk over it and quickly sucking them into the ground. Out of five pedestrians who fell into the hole, four were injured. The footage was caught on surveillance camera and showed up on Chinese social media soon afterward. Via Yakima Herald
