Louis C.K. as Lincoln

If you are anything like me, then you love Louis C.K. If you are not like me you might still like Louis C.K., but on the rare occasion that you are both not like me and you do not like Louis C.K... well then I have nothing for you at this juncture.

Louis was on SNL this weekend and particularly killed it with the spoof on his own show where instead of being Louis CK he was Lincoln. Hilarity ensued, warning though NSFW - Strong Language.

Idris Elba and Mumford and Sons

One of the internet's favorite actors, Idris Elba, has teamed up with one of the internet's favorite bands, Mumford and Sons. I personally have always liked Elba, ever since his role as Stringer Bell in The Wire. He was also in Prometheus (a film I wanted desperately to like but didn't), Thor, American Gangsters, The Office (!), and a few other things. He grew up in Canning Town, East London, so it is no stretch of the imagination that he would like Mumford and Sons. Originally found here, you can also watch the video on youtube.

Sea Otter Outsmarts Killer Whale

I have always though killer whales were beautiful animals, that being said they pale in comparison to how cute I find sea otters. Part of this video is very tragic, knowing that mother otter lost her child, but I still find it amazing that the otter managed to outwit the whales. In the battle of sea otters versus killer whales, I am strongly in the sea otter camp.

Evolving Name

So guys, I have lied to you. Brody is not my real name. Like Rob up there, Brody is only a shortened version of my legal name. My real name is, wait for it- Broderick. I am sure at some point I will evolve into a Broderick, maybe even a Rick or a Derrick - probably not, but who knows what the future holds. Right now though, I am still enjoying Brody and plan on it for a while.

Dragon Baby

Everybody was Kung-Fu fighting, that baby was fast as lightning. In fact it was a little bit frightning, but he fought all while crying.

See! I knew I should have gone into music.

First Ditch Effort

Andrew Robertshaw of Charlwood, England decided he wanted to build a World War I era trench in his garden. Robertshaw, age 55, then enlisted the help of 30 volunteers and built the 60ft-long trench -moving 200 tones of earth in the process- in about a month. After completion he then lived in it (along with a group of reenactors) for 24 hours to relive what WWI soldiers went through.

"It's all about learning"' said Mr Robertshaw, who explained that all of the participants wrote about their experiences of cooking, eating and cleaning in the trench. "I am an ex-history teacher and I just want people to know more about our history and the First World War is such a big part of that," said the historian, who has appeared on the television programme Time Team and worked behind the scenes on Who Do You Think You Are? "Particularly as Remembrance Day is coming up it is important to realise how those troops were living."

He is working on a book titled 24 Hour Trench: A Day In The Life Of a Frontline Tommy. Check out all the amazing photographs and a video here.

Things Jean-Claude van Damme Has Said

Apparently old JCVD has said some pretty funny things through the years. One commenter (reddit) suggested that Jean-Claude van Damme quotes used to be more popular than Chuck Norris jokes - in France at least. Check out this assortment of JCVD quotes.

Friend Zone

Sometimes there is just no right answer. I feel like I have been trapped in this terrible situation a few too many times. An easy way to forget the pain is to make new friends, like Mr. Whiskey and Ms. Scotch. I don't know why Scotch comes out as a girl in this scenario, it just sounds better.

A Curious Vanity Picture

The Curiosity rover took a vanity shot. In this self picture, which actually is a combination of 55 individual photos taken from its MAHLI camera, you can see the rover sitting comfortably on the surface of Mars. Stuart Atkinson, an amateur astronomer, put the 55 pictures together and can be viewed at its full 5,400 pixel wide version here.

Star Talk With Neil deGrasse Tyson

How many astrophysicists do you know by name? One right? Neil deGrasse Tyson. I don't know what it is about him, something fatherly and wholesome, but everything he does I find interesting. Knowing this, Nerdist decided it was a good idea to launch a new web series called "Star Talk With Neil deGrasse Tyson." In episode one he has guests Mike Massimino, Kristen Schaal and John Hodgman. Massimino was an astronaut and they talk about astronaut related things.

Side note: We meet again John Hodgman- ironic PC guy, nemesis from Bored to Death. You can't see it now but I am scowling at my computer screen just thinking about him.

IMDB Top 250 Video Montage

Warning NSW - Strong Language

IMDB top 250. How many of these have you seen? I think I have probably watched at least 90% of these films, if not more. The list changes a lot apparently - so 53 of the titles were in the top 250 when the original poster began the project, but now are not. Still pretty fun though.

Doctor Octopus

Patton Oswalt has to thank Adam Savage for this great Doctor Octopus costume. Oswalt's daughter wanted him to be the evil Doctor Octopus for Halloween, so Oswalt went to twitter to ask his followers where he could get a costume. Adam Savage, from Mythbusters, came calling. He build this by hand and it only took him 4 hours. The video below has all the info you need if you are planning for next year.

Area Code

XKCD strikes again. The system of area codes is old and outdated. I am sure this applies to more than just the US.

Still though, I do love rep'ing my 847! Pop quiz- where is 847 from? On your honor(!), no Google - just guess.

Death of a Nyan Cat

If you surf the internet, then at some point you have probably seen Nyan Cat. The original creator of that infectiously addicting 8-bit rainbow meme, Chris Torres, has informed the internet that his cat Marty (inspiration for Nyan Cat) has passed away.

A week ago Marty started acting strange and the responsible owner Torres quickly brought him to the vet. Marty was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a fatal and incurable disease. Marty passed away last night.

As a lover of Nyan Cat and as a pet owner myself- this is a sad day. RIP Marty, may Nyan Cat live on in your memory.

Walking the Bed

At first this video may not seem like much, just a guy walking on a mattress. This is Reuben Reynoso, professional mattress walker.

The final step in many handmade mattresses requires someone to actually walk on the bed. Reynoso is paid by McRoskey Mattress Factory in San Francisco to walk on three mattresses a day.

"It's work. It's not for everybody. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it."

Check out more of the story here.
