Things get bad: First comes Fimbulwinter--three years of unending cold--then the stars vanish from the sky, earthquakes and tsunamis rip at the land, etc. etc.
And then: The fire giants, all condemned men and a slew of other mythical creatures do battle with the gods and all the fallen heroes of Valhalla. Everyone dies. The earth is burnt then flooded.
Until: Renewal is borne by the destruction. The sun is reborn, crops spontaneously sprout, and the descendants of the two surviving humans--Lif and Lifthrasir--will live in peace and harmony. The end.
