I remember when I was little and would take my little sis out for halloween, the first house we'd go to was immediately next door where Mrs. Polovcek lived. She would give her a clove of garlic and a length of twine with 15 knots in it along with her candy. When asked, she explained that it was a mingling of American and Slovakian traditions, that in the area of Czechoslovakia where she grew up, you gave these things to people traveling at night as wards to protect them from malicious spirits. The garlic was blessed and kept weak spirits away while the twine was something you gave a spirit to distract them while you ran away – as apparently spirits cannot leave a knot untied but can also not break a loop, so the spirit would try to undo the top 14 knots while leaving the 15th on the end tied.
I love how in an administration founded on "hope," they are hellbent on taking away about the only thing left in the world that can actually represent and foster it.
I wholeheartedly agree as well. I started coming to neatorama as I found it to be a wonderful collection of neatness, every post handpicked for perfection in that regard. Then the UQ came and it seemed to become diluted.
It's like going into your favorite sushi place for premium toro and they hand you, instead of your two pieces of toro, six pieces of maguro – the maguro is okay and more plentiful, but it is not that little bit of perfection that you came in for.
So far, I have had to liquidate all my investments to pay off my bills. I lost My father fired me from his company to scale back costs. I can't find a job anywhere I look in my area, as everyone is firing off workers to cut costs and not hiring. And I had to move back in with my mother. I am surviving and not starving or anything, but it has been a major disturbance in my life.
Is she cut out for the job? I think that is a bigger issue than a person's sexuality. Oh right, unimportant factors like race and sexuality matter more than results these days. Seriously, I think it is just as discriminatory to focus on a gay person or a black person or a headless person or whatever who is elected to office than anything else – they're just people! "Positive" discrimination and racism is STILL discrimination and racism!
I have never seen the 1972 quaker oats logo, only the 1957. So either they switched back or my oatmeal is really out of date. I was born in 1980 by the way, so you'd think in 29 years i would have seen that logo before.
And 90% of my edits are overturned despite being mere spelling mistakes. If I see "teh," or "annyware," or the like, I tend to correct them. It is like picking up a bit of litter on the street and putting it in the bin – simply being a conscientious denizen of the community. But my corrections are almost always reverted!
And since the TSA does not check for it, you can smuggle lots of liquids or C4 onto the plane! At least until they implement the full body cavity searches and/or full body x-ray kajiggers.
Barack Obama – because he is the least suited to the task and America has decided that choosing the most incompotent leaders is the course of action to take after the 8 years of awesome that was Reagan.
