>> I'm surprised this is the decision of a 94 year old. It sounds like something a 4 year old would want to do.

A 94 year old and a 4 year old are possibly not too different. ;)

At least she realized all her money was no good to her when she was dead. But yeah, giving it to a cat? That's like giving the finger to f*cking everybody. (And I like cats.)

I dunno, looks comfy if it wouldn't be made of metal.

Speaking of mannequins; this makes me puke:

>> Banks are a necessary evil.

Banks are necessary yes, but not necessarily evil, it's the way our financial system is set up that makes them evil.

Why do we have banks as 'for profit' companies in the first place? Just create one single government owned bank, one single bank that does everything we need banks for, controlled by the (presumably democratic) government. This would be a bank that is not interested in making a profit, it would just be a bank that does all the stuff that needs to be done to keep things running.

Oh, too simple, my bad.

Empathy is one thing, but what really counts is altruism.
Feeling sorry for somebody else is better than apathy, but if you're not doing anything about it; how does that help anybody?

I can't remember the last time I did something for somebody else without a benefit for myself or because of social rules.

Yes, just kill the cow already so that we can eat it. Put it out of it's misery.

Most of this article and comments make no sense in a country like the Netherlands I think.

Most roads in the Netherlands or Europe in general as far as I know have bicycle lanes.
A lot of inner cities in Europe are banning car traffic, at least in part.

Sad world.
Help Thy Neighbor?
These days we only help our neighbor if we can make a profit.

- Hey we got a cure that can save millions of lives!
- OK so how do we do this so that we can make as much money as possible?

@ Melissa

If the government really wants to help them they can, nobody is stopping them. I really don't see the need for the government to criminalize the people they want to help.

It makes no sense. It reminds me of ... oh never mind, don't want to invoke Godwins law. ;)

>> Hopefully some gene therapy in the future can do this.

Humans have evolved for thousands of years (or millions of years depending where you start) to need 7.5 to 9 hours of sleep (for adults). I would be careful to mess with that.

That 'few hours of sleep'-gene seems like an aberration and I wonder what the hidden cost is. Maybe it takes 10 years off their life expectancy, who knows, seems entirely possible to me.
