this robot and the accompanying press releases are all complete bs (unfortunately). Some lab tried to get a bit more PR than it really needed.
The blurb about the Asimo is simply false (i dont work for Honda or whatever).
The current ASIMO does in fact use ZMP (aka dynamic) - based balancing. And if you wanna see a REALLY good humanoid robot, (that can in fact stand up if completely pushed over) check out the now-cancelled Sony SDR-4X aka the QRIO.
the same costume was used during the Spanish inquisition; given that this is a sculpture in Italy, it's likely that this is a reference to that... anyone know?
If i recall correctly, these things are caused by things like depletion of underground water resevoirs. These things happen all the time in south america, and in other places in the world. People keep pumping out underground lakes which leads to all sorts of underground feature changes which leads to dome erosion and, eventually, sinkholes.
isn't there some story that eventually Erazem was shot with an arrow while he was sitting on a toilet? (in those days a "bathroom" would be a small room near the outer wall with a hole that led outside).
i'm too lazy to google :). but yeah, that castle is amazing.
The man is absolutely right. I think that people at MS (and other software companies) actually do realize this -- if only the MSDNAA was easier to get into. (MSDN Academic Alliance is a program that lets students get most microsoft software for free, legally.. but you university has to sign up for it first or something like that).
Piracy has certainly been a blessing for technology, especially in countries with poor economies. Of course the opposite side argues that if there wasn't any piracy, everything would cost 10x less... but being in the industry myself, i somehow doubt that.
