After reading the original article, I don't think I would have trusted Kenneth Good with a houseplant much less a human being. He seems like a completely self-absorbed jackass with no concern for his wife or son.
I've got a copy of the kid's book but it has Friday and Gannon on the cover. The copyright lists both 1957 and 1970 as the year. I wonder if it's different from the 1957 book or if they just changed the names to reflect the later series.
156. For once, my TCM addiction pays off! I'm missing several foreign films, most of the post-1995 stuff, and A Clockwork Orange which I will never watch since the one time I attempted it, I only made it through ten minutes before being thoroughly disgusted.
I dislike the inclusion of Harry Potter and Twilight as series. I'd prefer to see them broken out as individual books to see if any of the parts would still make the top ten.
Mary Roberts Rinehart was totally awesome. I find it funny that she's the American Agatha Christie when Rinehart came first. Her mysteries have a somewhat world-weary air to them and seem more realistic than Christie's. However, my personal favorites are the Tish novels which are humorous stories about three spinster friends.
The choices are listed in the last paragraph. Hitler wasn't a battlefield general so he wasn't a choice. I probably would have voted for Napoleon. Washington was more lucky than good.
I never read Roald Dahl as a kid,and when I read his books as an adult I found the books to be mean. Then I read Patricia Neil's autobiography. She had a stroke while married to Dahl and he would give her no help whatsoever. If she needed to use the bathroom and he was the only one around, she had to drag herself across the floor. If that's the way he treated the wife he supposedly loved, he was a miserable example of a human being.
The clothing looks completely wrong (more early 20th century than 19th). I'm not an expert, but I took a quick look at fashions from the 1830s and 1840s and didn't see any pictures of someone with a tie like that.
