I guess being a mountain biker (ride on the road with cars? no thanks) I think; there are no cars, yet you still wear a helmet. Why? Because it doesn't matter WHY you crash, it's the fact that when you do crash (and you will someday) the helmet keeps your brain on the inside. You don't have to do a study to know that helmets don't prevent crashes, but they do prevent more serious injuries.

This is a load of crap "science". If you think a few inches of room is better than the protection your brain gets from a helmet, then I guess you really DON'T need a helmet, you don't have much worth protecting. Can he show statistical evidence that not wearing a helmet results in fewer crashes AND those crashes don't result in a rise in serious head injuries? I'll file this one with "Intelligent Design" till he can prove something more substantial. It's sad when an academic give the right wing nuts that say "all academic research is a waste of time" more ammunition. BTW John Stossil was pimping this story weeks ago on some lame TV show.
