artschild's Comments

Wow... I just popped in to make exactly the same sort of comment. They end up all over as litter, or get eaten by wildlife and can cause horrific deaths by clogging intestines... I'm glad more people know about the harms of releasing tons of helium balloons into the sky. Hopefully, a few people will see these sorts of comments here, and a few more of these kinds of events will be prevented.

Funny as this is, the really, truly horrifying thing about this is that the harsher the "germicidal efficiency," the more likely it is to CAUSE the smells it purports to eliminate. I say this primarily because it seems an awful lot of people STILL don't understand that naturally, there's a small ecosystem down there... and if you intentionally wipe out the native organisms, it opens the region up to infiltration by non-native organisms, a.k.a. infections - which are the cause of smelly ****.

I'm sure some readers are aware of this, but there are still a lot of people who either don't know or choose to ignore it, and that causes quite a few young women a lot of extra angst (and more than a few infections, I've heard), so... consider this an obligatory public service announcement.

For all the reasons just mentioned, the product itself isn't particularly useful, but I do think he's onto something with the concept, and the ideas he's trying to promote. Current recycling processes can be inefficient and have questionable results. Bringing ways of recycling our products, ourselves, directly into our homes is in itself a pretty revolutionary idea.

She also seems to favor notes in a certain frequency range, on the high end of those she can reach. She may just really like the sound - my cats go nuts for some high-pitched noises, getting equally head-rubby. I assume it has something to do with bird-seeking instincts.

I don't know about the catnip - I think anyone owning a quality piano would be a bit concerned about dumping catnip between the keys. Plus - the site says she started doing it on her own. My thought is Nora here sees people paying strict attention to those keys a good amount of the time, and thought she'd try it herself. Once she did, she got attention for it, so she kept going. My cats frequently express great interest in my laptop when they see me spend a lot of time with it, similarly, trying to rub their heads against it, and putting their paws on the keys. It's like saying "look, if you won't step AWAY from this thing, I'll join you. Look, see, I like it, too. Just pay attention to me, already."

My favorites are "Enlightenment" - though I've lost track of the artist at the moment, and "Love Wife Face" by Tsuyoshi Hirooka. I love the first, because it's just plain beautiful, with its colors, and fascinating, creepy, and smart, all at the same time. The second, I find irresistible because, well, it's just so incredibly, stylistically DIRTY. It completeley rocks.

Um, not to say I don't appreciate its awesome design, and the way that it works with rather than against the environment it's designed for, but a quarry is not a "natural" environment. It's a mining site.
