But saying "Perfectly circular" implies that the diameter is the same all the way around. Yes a Circle is an Ellipse, but not every Ellipse is a Perfectly semetrical circle as implied by the article.
AND FYI for anyone else, the 400ft Wide statement from the article is indeed supposed to be DEEP as referred to in the quoted text.
