Avoid the self-checkout? Ever shopped at a Walmart? Good luck with that. Customer convenience my buht-tocks. Today's grocery stores (and most others) implemented self-checkout so they don't have to pay cashiers. The 2-3 standing around to help with quirky technology and confused customers not withstanding.

Glinda was the Good Witch of the South. Four compess points but only three witches in the movie. The real Good Witch of the North is Locasta Tattypoo. With a name like that she has to be good.

Other than hot Dr. Pepper, never heard of any of these, but I've always liked jello. Growing up it was a common desert. Mix a flavor with a can of drained fruit cocktail. Or sometimes a banana. Good stuff. As for 'chewing' it, not sure how that would work. I liked to kind of swish it around. And: Pistachio pudding is the key ingredient in an Ambrosia Salad. The glue that holds this marvelous concoction all together. Chocolate pudding is nothing more than cream, sugar, chocolate (bakers or cocoa), egg yolks, and maybe cornstarch. So easy to make and better than anything store bought.

American candy on the whole has regressed in the same manner as beer and red delicious apples. Companies trying to provide a product nationally that everybody likes. Throw in manufacturing costs and it gets even worse. Miss C is right, peeps and candy corn have no place here. And who eats lifesavers for Christmas? (Sorry sandyra). As for the rest, at one time they were all pretty awesome. Well maybe not tutti-frutti candy canes. One of my favorites was simply known as Christmas Candy, i.e. the mix or today "old fashioned." Except it's not. True Christmas Candy came in flavors like anise, clove, and wintergreen. The berries were jelly filled, and there were other fillings too. Today they're all lemon flavored. The real stuff is simply "Hard Tack" candy flavored with Lorann oils. There are recipes for it all over the internet. And yes Miss C, it's been years since I've had (good) Christmas nougat.

When done right mincemeat pie is awesome. Really do need to use alcohol - bourbon or rum - and the mixture needs to age a bit before baking. Too little liquid and you end with a fruitcake and we all know what happens with those at this time of the year. . .

The descriptions are awesome and I suspect he nailed them all. I love Honeycrisp and Cosmic Crisp only recently made it up here at the end of the food chain. When I finally got to try one (because cost is a big factor at the end of the food chain), I was like pfffttt... what's the big deal? Be nice to see a "baking" category - like noted in Granny Smiths, while they may not do well in the edible category, they sure do bake really good. And the McIntosh used to be my go to when I regularly made candy apples - yum!

Well that was quick. Hell or High Water is an awesome movie but it's not a western. Else you'd also have to include Outland (Sean Connery). Brokeback Mountain is a much better fit if you want to include something more modern day. Jimmy Stewart's best Western was not Winchester '73. Not even close. It was The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - which didn't even make the list!? This omission invalidates the whole list. Butch Cassidy is no more a Western than Blazing Saddles. They're comidies (really good ones). Which brings me to Buck and The Preacher. Minus the "good" part. And where's Hondo, The Shootist, 3:10 to Yuma, and my sentimental favorite Silverado?

Considering the undying pervasiveness of this commercial I know exactly how the concept entered his brain. The only problem is he didn't ruin it; he made it better.
