I only read the first few comments, and thankfully also the one from darren at 10:31. I am a parent of preemie twins born 14 weeks early and weighing less than 2 pounds each. My children are almost 4 years old now, and you'd never know they entered the world so soon and so tiny. They are very healthy and incredibly smart! I know that the odds were against us, but in this day and age doctors are making great strides in saving preemies' lives and improving their quality of life. Not only do we owe credit to the doctors, but parents who are educated on preemie issues and available treatments and programs are to be applauded as well. Our doctors told us on several occasions that they were merely giving our children a jump start, but that the real test would be what we would do to continue their ability to thrive once they came home over 3 months after birth. Please don't assume that all preemies are destined to suffer the rest of their lives with health problems and learning disabilities. In my experience, I have run across more stories of success rather than sadness.
