Some years ago a British court told the police that if they habitually stood on the roadside wearing a builder's vis-vest with a sailor's cap on while pointing hairdriers at passing motorists then indeed he would convict a resident of impersonating a police officer. Until then the accused could carry on slowing down the traffic through his village in the way he had been.

My dad and his neighbours used to keep three old bangers which they parked on alternate sides of the road so that traffic had to slow down to negotiate them. The police didn't like it but there wasn't a thing they could do about it - parking sensibly on a 30mph road in a way that stops busses doing 50mph isn't a crime, it appears.

I happen to believe that there never was a god to die in the first place, but I wouldn't go round offending other people by wearing it writ large on a tee-shirt - that's just rude.

As the paper says - the issue of Russia having control of Alaska is probably a non-starter since it would probably have ended up in Canadian hands.

It would be intriguing to imagine what might have happened had it stayed in Russian hands - the impact on the American psyche of the 50s would have been immense - or so it seems from this side of the Atlantic from this many years after.

Yup - I'll go with the flow and agree that people really should know how to do this already.

At a friend's house their son choked on a bacon sandwich. She didn't know what to do so I got on with it - moments later our son choked on the other end of the same sandwich and I had to invert and thump him, too.

Cursed bacon - who trusts it?

The maths for the hourly rate assumes that you have a steady flow of input. Hunting around for the coupons could well take longer.

For all that, if it's a freebie, take it, provided it doesn't sell you something you weren't going to buy anyway.

Though it bears great similarity to an early prosthetic heart valve, it clearly isn't, 'cos it's made of brass and has interstices at the apex of the cage - for example.

So - it presumably performs the same function - so it's a non-return valve for something less fussy than blood.
