Ears often act like ratchets. Tuck them in and the kid's head can usually be persuaded to come free. Failing that, a car jack works wonders - you usually only need to spring the bars apart 10mm or so to make all the difference. Jacks are usually nearer to hand than emergency services. I've done several over the years.
Some time in the early 70s, in Ireland, I saw two goats chained to each other in a field. They weren't chained to anyhing - just to each other. The owner said they'd never agree on an escape plan - and as far as I could tell they never did. They could get about 20' apart and that was it. Even if one climbed over the wall it never got more than 20' beyond.
Aaargh - I remember avocado suites. Of coral-pink shell-shaped suites. A few months ago our son and I took out a shower that looked as it might once have been avocado but was actually just very very dirty. Hope the landlord can persuade the tenants to look after the replacement we fitted.
The Bank of England building in Threadneedle Street used to be heated by burning old notes. Don't know if it still is - probably not what with clean air rules.
Worth pointing out it's BBC footage, not DARPA. I pay my licence fee every year for them to make stuff like that - and unlike a lot of people, I'm happy to.
I don't fancy putting a knot in flex like that. Sooner or later they'll break just beyond the strain-relief of the plug. Then again, I've acquired quite a few goodies over the years that others have thrown out because of broken flex...
LEDs or compact fluorescents. There is one single "bulb-shaped" bulb left in the house - and that's in a bulkhead fitting in the cupboard under the stairs.
I reckon Jo Brand would do...one ascerbic comment from her and all manner of nasties throw in the towel.

The last place I saw some was some flats where the electricity is included in the rent.
