There's a nice recipe for rats with onion sauce in "Lobscouse and Spotted Dog", the cookbook (and culinary history) of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin novels. Here 's a shot of its preparation and the finished, delicious looking dish:

This was a recognized, if minor humor concept in the 19th century - I have two stereoviews showing a farmer squirting milk; to a cat in one image, and to a pig in t'other. The title is the same on both - "And Nicodemus was fed by the Wayside." Nice to see a modern version!
