Being denied the right to protect yourself with firearms by the state would be sad and depressing. Guns in the wrong hands can lead to great evil but its not like outlawing them would suddenly cause gun violence to go away. There will always be means to purchase firearms.

If everyone carried a gun criminals would think twice about about their actions knowing their chances of getting shot were far greater than if guns were banned completely.
