Hey! I've been trying to find out what this is for AGES. I saw it on Channel 4's 3 minute wonder about two years ago and I thought it was really cool (also they it looked like it was part of a series), especially because they usually just show a load of crap on it to fill in the time slot between Big Brother and Location location... beh.
Did anyone else think that the twelve year old look like she was about thirty?

Heh this reminds me of when I was younger and obsessively read the Beano every week. They always used the word "Groo" as a sound effect and to this day I'm not entirely sure why.

It's a "Hamm-longer" for all those hard to reach places that you just need to knock nails into.

I agree that the English system is much clearer than the American one, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. There are still problems with rating (the BBFC seems to be more lenient towards sexual content and drug abuse but stricter towards violence and horror). For example, we had the same problem with Pirates of the Caribbean, and films in a series tend to all get the same rating no matter what the individual content (like with the Bond films; Casino Royale contained torture and brutal violence but it was still a 12 because that was the certificate of most of the previous films).
Also, I think in general film companies will allow a lot more violence if it is in a historical context, because somehow that makes it okay. Saving Private Ryan was probably the most brutal and traumatic films I've seen in terms of impact, yet it was only a 15. I've seen quite a few 18s which aren't half as bad as some "historical" 15s. I don't think that an eduational context makes something less traumatic (in fact because it actually happened it could be argued that it's MORE traumatic).
Maybe there should be a system like there is on DVD cases (don't know if you have this in America) where the content of the film is explained (violent content, sex/nudity, language etc.) for cinemas too. It's a lot more helpful than a blanket age limit.
Also ratings for games should be rethought out too. They're usually wrong, and the PEGI ratings don't count for much either.

Wow... I got As for my science GCSE (11th grade I think) but I only got a C for this test... either a) I've gotten stupider over time b)I've forgotten most of what I've learnt or c)American science is more difficult than what is taught in England (most likely... I didn't learn most of this stuff until at least 10th grade)

I don't understand why people are being on the side of the prisoners. When you commmit a crime you lose all your rights, in my opinion, until you have been punished. In England prison is seen more as a risk of being a criminal rather than a serious deterrent. In most prisons criminals are allowed to have mobile phones, TV, playstations... they're even allowed to buy lottery tickets now (and one guy in prison actually won). For some people being in jail is better than their normal lives. How is this punishing them?
So kudos to the sheriff for making a stand. I don't know how good the prisons in America are, but any way of making time spent in prison more of a punishment is a good idea in my books.

I think that the smaller object is a wood and metal slide whistle (possibly from the Baroque period) and the large tweezer like object is a primitive tuning fork, possibly in the key of B sharp(tuning to a whole note higher than ours, naturally). I believe J.S.Bach used one in his Brandenburg concerto no. 7.

Some plants DO make noise. When certain plants are left without water for a long time, they emit an incredibly high pitched noise.
(I can't certify that this is true... it seems pretty unbelievable... but I read it in a published book of general facts "the Book of Useless Information" so I assume so)

OH I actually know this one! It's for taking the tops off boiled eggs!
But this looks like it's mated with a pair of scissors and had horrible mutant offspring... maybe the one I have is just crippled (its got no handles, just two buttons you squeeze together)

I've only heard of two of these books and only read one (HP clearly...). I think the 100 most important books of 2007 in England would be very different. Or perhaps I just haven't kept up with new releases like I should have...

I got: Pong, Tetris, ???, Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, Kirby, ??? and Mario again. It's a shame the video was upside down though.
And Anthony, I'd like to see you try to play an instrument well, while marching around a field, trying to get into the correct shapes (which you can't see by the way), with thousands of people watching you.

Happy Thanksgiving to Americans! It's great that you have a holiday that's completely American and your own, which hasn't been commericialized by the big companies (yet). I think we could learn a lot from this holiday, and the others would be more enjoyable.
Oh and what am I thankful for? That there's still plenty of time before Christmas to get my shopping done ^_^

I like the book and the boy's version of it, I think it's really interesting and fun (even for older children ^_^) but the advert REALLY annoyed me. Pretty unneccessary seeing as it's going to sell in droves anyway.
