The original problem was teachers being dicks to kids. You don't need to feed kids self esteem, just stop destroying what little they have so they can build up more.
I just find it hard to relate to a "heroine" who is in actuality the villain of the piece. Her motivations are purely selfish, she steamrolls through the lives of everyone around her hellbent, literally hellbent, on getting only what she wants, which is simply, to become a monster. She wants that brass ring of immortality so damn much, she'll push and needle the man she supposedly loves into going against everything he believes to give it to her. She drives her dad nuts with her mood swings and reckless behaviour, she ignores her friends, she dumps the guy who helped her get over losing the man who left her for her own good, she sees firsthand the manipulation and violence of the Volturi, knowing the family she's about to marry into won't stand up to them, will accept them slaughtering a tour bus load of men women and children and just keep walking, will accept their judgements no matter how evil... and for what? So she can be a wife forever and ever and ever. No other ambitions than that? At all?
How can you look at her and not see the next head of the Volturi? She's a runaway train of id.
A security guard with 40 hours of training is not a police officer. If a police officer can't lay hands on me without a warrant or probable cause then a security guard sure as hell shouldn't be groping my privates (this happened to me in San Diego, it was traumatic and pretty much wrecked my day).
A security guard with 40 hours training is not qualified to calibrate a backscatter machine. If something was wrong with the machine there would be no way of knowing how much radiation was being dumped into the skin of a person being scanned (backscatter radiation doesn't penetrate the body but it does deposit in skin).
TSA has claimed over and over again that the machines don't record images but the manufacturer has stated very clearly that they can.
I don't mind pat downs, I've had them before but what they're doing now is shocking and meant to intimidate people into using these machines without question.
Aw, the cynicism is out in full force tonight I see. People all over the world expressed their sadness and grief for what happened not out of intimidation or fear but because they're human and that's what humans do, especially when so many from so many nations were affected that day. About 30 Canadians died in the attacks, and the whole country mourned. One of the most striking images from that week was from a village in arctic, Inuit people gathered together with candles praying for the lives lost, not just for those Canadians, but for everyone in those buildings and planes. People so far away, with concerns so far removed from our silly world, took time from their very immediate ones to make statement of sadness. So yeah, you can think what you like, it's just sad you can't believe people feel genuine heartfelt emotions for others.
I lived in an apartment with a shared balcony separated by a plastic barrier. Our cat would constantly sneak under the barrier or around it by balancing on the rail and then over to the other side to pester my neighbour. It was easy enough to block the route under but the railing was tougher because the plastic didn't have any holes or any way to screw a board into it. I found this netting at the pet store that was supposed to deter cats. It seemed to work for a few days... and then while working in another room I looked out the window to see a group of people frantically waving and yelling at me from the parking lot across the alley. I looked out to where they were pointing and saw my cat tangled in the net, dangling precariously over the parkade. I ran over and grabbed him just in time. Silly cat was banned from balcony from then on.
There was a photographer who pointed out something interesting about the smile. If you frame just the mouth and rotate it 90 degrees counter clockwise, you see a very nicely defined back and ass.
So, there are a million people who live in the area. The city was built for a million and a half. The article says most of the real estate has been purchased... so why aren't people living there? Is it only flippers owning and local residents not buying? I'm not sure I understand what's happening here.

It'd be funny if it weren't so creepy.
