How is this an explanation when there is no information as to the origin of some diffracting medium?

Why do people write in ignorance? The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle IS NOT "a peculiar aspect of quantum mechanics that asserts that the mere act of measuring the position of a particle disturbs its momentum." In fact, the proposal states something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT: that there are certain pairs of physical properties in Physics (known as conjugate pairs) each of which cannot be known simultaneously with arbitrary degrees of precision. And THAT'S IT! The Principle itself has nothing to do with the act of measurement, and certainly not of "disturbing" a physical system during an act of measurement; the Uncertainty Principle limits the precision of assigning simultaneous values IN PRINCIPLE, as well as A PRIORI, i.e., before any simultaneous physical measurement even need be contemplated. Please stop spreading this all too common misunderstanding.

"Seinfeld" didn't create any brand of "sitcom television." There has never been a show, with the exception of "Curb...", that can be even remotely compared to its sensibility. What a comment like that is exposing is a lack of historical perspective (TV-wise) (and the fact that maybe 90% of all sitcoms—ever—are/were junk), and, very probably, the commentator’s age (let me guess...hovering around thirty, or younger?)

BTW...if you want to kvetch about a recent and egregious anachronism, try this past week's MAGIC CITY episode (which takes place just before the 60s), in which a worried Jeffrey Dean Morgan says, "I'm freaked" (shorthand for "freaked out").
This usage of the word "freak" comes out of its use FIRST as an epithet for hippie-long-hair-druggie types circa post-1966.

This usage of "I mean" has been around for many decades, if not longer.
