It's actually my favourite sundae ... I've seen icecream versions of lasagna (with blueberry, raspberry and other berries), spaghetti carbonara (done with vanilla icecream and egg liqueur) and tagliatella (hazelnut icecream with chocolate sirup) on some menues!
Had to laugh at that one ... I was born in the area and also grew up there, so I know quite a bit of Frisian. Actually, there are different variations of Frisian Language. This guy has spoken the East Frisian Low Saxon variation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frisian_Language ) which I'm familiar with although I can't speak it perfectly. In our area it's called "Plattdüütsch" or simply "Platt".
Duff Beer does exist in Germany, too! A German beer brewery got a license for it some time ago - it's being sold at two certain big supermarket chains everywhere in Germany. :-)
That's the ethnic aisle @ KaDeWe, Berlin's most known warehouse for expensive labels and other stuff. They have one floor with food from all over the world. Many things such as hot dogs, Doritos, Tacos etc. have emerged into the German food culture, too, so you will find them at most supermarkets here.
That's probably the reason why KaDeWe has only such a limited choice of "American Food". They mostly sell labels or brands that are exquisite or just plainly expensive - or seen as a classical item from U.S. culture.
True - I've been many times in the building of the Reichstag, as I live here in Berlin. Those graffitis were preserved in order to remember the fall of the city and those, who besieged it. Some of those graffitis can be seen on top, where the glass dome can be visited. Others can be seen on some walls of the corridors the visitors walk through.
This story reminded me of an old German story - the "Hauptmann von Köpenick", aka Captain of Koepenick. In 1906, a German masqueraded as a Prussian military officer and fooled the people successfully.

I'm from Germany. Many people know the story of those three kids and are annoyed by the name choices of the parents. Here, you'd have serious problems if you'd try to give your kid such a name that can be clearly associated with the Nazis. The "Standesamt", the civil registry office, wouldn't allow such names - there have already been some disputes in court because of some parents' name choice for its kids.
And Sharon McEachern is right about the story with Tchibo .. the company says it hadn't realized that the slogan would be misunderstood and it was not their intention to bring up the concentration camps, etc. This campaign was quickly taken down after the first complaints. As far as I know, someone in an advertising company had thought up the idea and nobody thought that it was too similiar to that sentence from the WW2. Not everyone is that fluent in history ....
Hi, I'm from Germany. The pilot has been applauded for his smart decision not to land. The tower is now being questioned because they gave the pilot a runway that was known for being bad during strong winds. There had been a storm warning hours before the landing of this plane - someone in the tower must have been sleeping or have ignored that weather warning and given the clear off for the dangerous runway.
According to news, the pilot was up in the air again after only two days, with his co-pilot.
This isn't the first telephone booth to be remodeled as an aquarium. I remember seeing such an aquarium during the World Expo in Hanover, Germany in 2000.
Hej, I'm deaf myself. I can speak well enough to communicate w/ hearing people but need to see their mouth during speaking bec I rely on lip reading in order to understand them.
I know many deaf people who can only sign but never have witnessed such an idiotic attack on them. Maybe staring bec of the signing, but THAT? That clerk has clearly some mental problems .. I'd say that the clerk is the one who's disabled, not his deaf victim.
