Proximity sensors have been proposed before but have always proven to be pseudo science similar to free energy and dowsing rod devices. Proximity sensing is extremely difficult with extremely high error margin.
The device pictured does not resemble a multi-million $ commercial technology embodiment for widespread use by the untrained monkeys at security checkpoints. That is not how you package a THz laser device, where is the transmitter and receiver?
