Is the upcoming film adaptaion of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" not awesome enough for you? It's actually to be a major theatrical release with a decent cast...plus Tim Burton as a producer!
When things took a solid swing towards the supernatural, rather than sci-fi, is when I started losing interest. Also I'm angry that the whole Dharma Initiative turned out to be more-or-less a MacGuffin/red-herring.
However, I propose the "LOST/Inception" theory, where the tv show LOST actually occurred in a series of nested shared dreams. Bear with me...oh yeah, Double Spoiler Alert. During the seasons of LOST, there are many unrealistic events and plot-elements that suddenly show up and never get fully resolved, random groups of hostile people (projections), weird time-travel tangents (just a deeper level dream), and everyone ends up with amnesia in purgatory at the end until they can all remember why they're there...sound familiar? The only scene missing is just for everyone to wake up in the airplane as they approach Los Angeles at the end of the series.
