Hmmm, cant believe someone hasnt suggested it yet, but how about an AK47. Reliable, rugged and the 7.62 round is also very common, most contries have huge stockpiles of 7.62. Only problem to the man on the street would be getting hold of one... Other than that, the 12g shotgun + 9mm is a very good combo.
