Cameron (the lion) and Zabu (the white tiger) were initially raised together by their original owner in order to breed a white liger. When Big Cat Rescue got them, they assessed their personalities and decided to keep them together, but they had Zabu spayed and Cameron got a vasectomy (neutered males lose their manes). Big Cat Rescue is a rescue group in Tampa that rescues big cats from private owners and roadside zoos and rehabs the occasional injured bobcat.
I've been on countless tours with BCR and considered volunteering for them. If you're ever in Tampa Florida, look them up.
I too learned to type before MS Word eliminated the need for the second space after periods and colons. It didn't take me long to adapt, and now, with any text I edit, I automatically do a global search and replace of all double spaces.
This has the same feel to it as a newspaper editorial or an Urban Legends email, and it seems a bit staged. Even so, and even if it's merely an editorial, it serves as an interesting look at slavery from a historical perspective.
In these cold winter months, it's wise to bang on the hood of your car a couple of times before you start it. That should wake any unsuspecting stray cats who'd been huddling against the warmth of the engine.
I lived in Tainan in the seventies and remember the musical garbage trucks. :-)
Japanese garbage trucks play music as well--helps warn people the truck is on its way (you were not allowed to leave your trash outside the night before). I remember more than once having to throw on a robe and dash outside with my trash bags when the truck arrived early.
Why do vets declaw? Because it makes them money. Some vets will roll in a declaw and a spay under the same anesthesia. Other vets refuse to perform the procedure.
I say good for Israel. I wish declawing, ear docking, tail docking and other unnecessary surgeries were banned in the US.
The photos are cute... but I can't help but think the poor kitty is so overbred and her face is so flat, she's incapable of keeping her tongue in her mouth.
There should be tight restrictions to zoos and proper, accredited sanctuaries (not hoarding hellholes disguised as such). We humans have a hard enough time caring for our domestic animals properly. There is no reason we should make wild animals suffer for the sake of our own egos.

@ Sandi Craws: Compassionate much?

Hindsight is amazing, innit?
