We haven't gone past 3.5. 4e just never interested us. Course we also held onto the 2nd books for way too long, but I think that was probably my favorite iteration.

As a kid we always flew standby as my dad worked for the airline. From the time we were probably six or seven we knew we might be sitting away from my parents (me and my brother). We never had any problem with it and my parents knew they could trust us to behave, even if we were somewhere back in coach and they were in first. We even had contingency plans in case there were only two seats on a plane and one parent would fly with one kid, but it never came down to that. 'Course this was the 80's and 90's, and we slept in the airport a couple times too.

Yeah, I distinctly remember my parents taking me to a Who convention in the 80s in Minnesota. I point to that as a big part of why I'm so nerdy today. Mom pinned parsley to me and my brother's shirts.

I'm not that old, 32, but aside from an Apple II once a month or so for an hour and the occasional video, I didn't have any tech in my school. In high school you could take a typing class, but I taught myself at home on the Amiga we had with Intellitype and Mavis Beacon. We did have computers at home, but I didn't get to really use it until I was a teen.

I'm all for kids learning through creative play, I'm quite glad my parents encouraged it and greatly limited the amount of even TV we had when we were little.

I managed out an associate degree [history], but since I didn't go to college right out of HS, my career history is pretty much one dead end job after another. I've been trying to get into the electricians union training program, but the wait to even see if you get in is over a year. Hopefully I'll hear something come fall.

At least my parents encourage me in this. My dad's a mechanic by trade, worked for the airlines for many years, so they know the value of blue collar and are both strongly union. They don't see blue collar work as beneath anyone. Then again my grandfather [dad's dad] built his own house too.
