Hopefully, Target has learned its lesson and will not do anything without checking with the LBGT community first. Happy to hear they apologized for the contribution, they should now contribute at least a like amount to gay-friendly charities and interests.
The odds are the ship was intentionally sunk there as part of the landfilling that took place at the time. My company participated in the retrieval and preservation of the ship found in 1982, which was determined to have been left there to take up space. It is really a waste of time to pull the ship out of there as though it is some sort of artifact; the 1982 ship still sits in tanks of preservative in upstate New York. No one wants the ship or its parts, and the same will happen with this one once it is pulled out of the ground at huge expense.
The responses here surprise me. Folks, if I ever find myself in your care, please ask your employer to kindly send the woman who is the subject of the article. Those who think nursing is nothing more than fluffing pillows and such, find another job if you need to but please don't be my nurse. If I were to be in the position of patient here, and a Jewish or Muslim or Hindu person offered to consider me in their thoughts, I would accept it. Heck, even Scientologists, I will take what I can get. I am disappointed that the patient here turned the nurse in for her offer of kindness. Whether you believe or not, it is not a selfish act to simply offer to pray.
