But I'm more outraged at the ADD-style movie trailers these days. I'm sick to death of half-second strobing of images.

Are the movie companies trying to give us all epilepsy??? Hopefully, someone will have a full-blown siezure in a theater and sue the hell out of 'em....

After the Cuban Migration of the '80s, nearly every bridge in South Florida was inhabited. You could look up under every overpass and see mounds of trash and living quarters (the occupants were never around during the day.)

I have noticed in the past few years most all the bridge occupants in South Florida have gone away. I don't know if its stricter enforcement or if they all just found different lodgings, but it's rare to see them now.

Back in my admin days when I used to purchase 9Gb drives for $2500, 12terrabytes would be a formidable thought (1,300 of the 9giggers at $3million).

But these days when you can go out to any computermart and buy a dozen terrabyte drives for less than $3k and put them all on one tabletop connected to one PC, it's really not that bad.

Scary to think that having that much space is so affordable and downright practical for a single user....

I love it.... a way for the paper to let people know who really owns the restaurant and give them the opportunity NOT to spend their dollars there.

We have a situation like that in our town, where a local eatery owner was charged (several times) with molesting some of his 15-year-old help. He's serving time but the eatery is still open and I carefully explain to everyone I know why NOT to spend their money in his establishment....

Same with radio: Clear Channel owns 80% of the US radio stations (and they also own the biggest concert venues, too so they can tell you what you'll go see.)

I had one of the original 128k Macs and bypassed the brandname IBM for a Panasonic Sr. Partner (a 45lb "luggable" portable computer)

Uh.... the 3.5" floppies in the original 128k Macs held >400k<, not 1.4mb. The OS, a small application like Write or Paint and a few documents would fit on them, but usually a LOT of disk-swapping was involved.

And yes, CompUSA has returned. TigerDirect from Miami has bought the name and are re-opening stores under the CompUSA name. They just opened one in West Palm Beach but I haven't been able to get to it yet....

I had a situation once where our department was working on a Saturday/Sunday and one of the dummies accidentally went out into the warehouse area and set the alarms off. We turned them off but a few minutes later the cops show up out front...and I stepped out and told them it was all OK. They didn't ask for ID or anything and just went away.

When I got back inside I told the crew, "That's the way to rob a building... just be sure to wear a shirt and tie and look like you work there!"

What happened to the oil-shale they said they could make gas from for $3/gallon?? At prices over $5, I'd think that they'd be jumping on gasoline from genetically-engineered bacteria that can excrete gasoline (another technology that was announced a year or so ago...)

At the higher crude prices, I would think the synth-gas alternatives could put enormous pressure on the OPEC stranglehold.
